Music Videos to Get You Out of That Creative Rut
Music videos are an art form that helps music fans visualize their favorite songs, engage in an interesting narrative, or even found a pop culture moment. Music videos provide us with iconic choreography, funny sound bites, and even creative inspiration.
Whenever I’m in a creative rut, experiencing writers block, or simply lacking inspiration, I hop on YouTube and watch some music videos. Sometimes it helps to pivot away from whatever creative project that you’re working and experience another form of creativity. So here I’ve listed five music videos that I believe will get that creative train of thought going again.
When I watch these music videos I try to look for something different each time. For example, I try to create a story idea for a film based on the music video, or I look for new references they included in the work, or I even try to analyze the work. Whichever it is, looking for something new every time allows of you to enjoy and watch the music video with fresh eyes. I encourage you to think of a task, prompt, or question you can give yourself before you watch your favorite music videos again, and watch them with the hat of a creative director instead of just a music fan.
So without further ado, here are some creative music videos that I like to return to when I’m looking to be creatively inspired.
